Professor of Psychology; Director, Barnard Center for Toddler DevelopmentPosition Description:

The Department of Psychology at BARNARD COLLEGE, COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY seeks a tenured/tenurable professor with a Ph.D or Psy.D. in Developmental or Clinical Psychology, with a specialization in early child development, for the senior faculty position of Director of the Barnard Center for Toddler Development. Duties include supervision of staff members and undergraduate assistants, research, undergraduate teaching, and oversight of a daily toddler program (48 children, age one to three) and toddler-parent community programs, including budget and fundraising. Establishing original research embedded within the programs of the center (such as work on socio-emotional development, communication, cognition, attachment, parenting, etc.) is an essential part of the role. Teaching responsibilities are two to three courses per year, including a two-semester seminar in toddler development that integrates 16 undergraduate apprenticeships in the toddler classroom, and a course every other year in developmental or clinical psychology.

 

Applicants must have a record of scholarly publication that is commensurate with their career stage, proven capacity for teaching excellence, experience advising or mentoring at the undergraduate level, and the ability and desire to head a highly regarded center for toddlers and their families that focuses on early development. We are interested in candidates who can work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and community families from all backgrounds.

Salary range is $133,000 – $300,000.

 

 

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
