Welcome to the Pickering Centre for Research in Human Development! Our aim is to make this Centre a home within a home as you progress through your graduate programs at Carleton. You will have opportunities to attend invited lectures and workshops, and gain access to the resources we offer as a collective of researchers studying developmental science.
Students and postdocs affiliated with the Pickering Centre are eligible to receive financial support each year of their program (September 1 – August 31) to assist with expenses related to conference travel, professional development, or eligible research expenses. For the 2026-2027 year, students can receive up to $500. Expenses cannot be back- or forward-dated; they must be incurred during the year of eligibility.
Travel and expense funding for Pickering Centre students comes with a give-back requirement. There are many ways to meet this requirement but it must in some way contribute to the enhancement of the Pickering Centre. In recent years, students wrote blog posts for our website, volunteered at the Centre’s recruitment booth for the Parent-Child Expo, and led workshops on various research and professional development topics. If you have an idea for a give-back contribution, please reach out to the Director and pitch your suggestion!
