Subject: Call for Papers: Multi-Level Exposome Approaches in Developmental Science | Developmental Review
The past two decades have been extraordinarily productive for developmental science in data, in methods, in the sophistication of domain-specific theory. What it has not yet built is the metatheory to hold them together, one that can formally account for how biological, relational, environmental, and structural exposures couple across levels, across time, and across contexts to shape a child’s development.
That is the conversation this Special Issue of Developmental Review is designed to have.
We are seeking contributions that take seriously the integrative challenge: theoretical and methodological reviews, conceptual syntheses, and empirically grounded frameworks that move beyond single-level explanations toward architectures capable of representing the full complexity of early environments. We are especially interested in work that treats variability as signal, engages Majority World contexts and evidence. The Special Issue is built with translation in mind toward the policy and practice architectures a post-2030 world will need.
The early-life exposome is our shared frame. The metatheory is what we are collectively building.
Invited and open-call contributions. Deadline: 15 December 2026.
