Submission deadline extended to October 18, 2026.

As 2027 approaches, so does the excitement of welcoming the international child language community to São Paulo, Brazil, for the 17th International Congress for the Study of Child Language (IASCL 2027), from July 26 to 30.

The call for papers is now open, and we warmly invite researchers from around the world to submit abstracts for oral presentations, posters, and symposia. Over four days, the congress will bring together scholars dedicated to advancing our understanding of child language across diverse languages, modalities, methods, and theoretical perspectives.

We are delighted to confirm an outstanding group of plenary speakers: Ros Herman (City St George’s, University of London, UK), Letícia Maria Sicuro Corrêa (Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Thierry Nazzi(Université Paris Cité, France), Evan Kidd (The Australian National University & Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics), and María de Lourdes de León Pasquel (Centro de Investigaciones y Estudios Superiores en Antropología Social, Mexico). It will be a unique opportunity to hear and see these researchers, and their lectures will offer inspiring opportunities to engage with cutting-edge research and reflect on the field’s current directions.

The scientific programme will also feature an exceptional range of oral sessions, poster sessions, and invited symposia, highlighting collaborations that cross national and disciplinary boundaries. Among them are the symposium organized by Celia Rosemberg, bringing together researchers from Argentina, Chile, Brazil, and Costa Rica, and the symposium coordinated by Ronice Muller de Quadros, connecting scholars from Brazil, the United States, and Chile to discuss language acquisition in sign languages.

Before the congress officially begins, participants will have the opportunity to attend a series of in-depth tutorials led by internationally recognized scholars: Brian MacWhinney, Francielli Cantarelli, Jennifer Zuk, Karin Vivanco, Marcus Maia, and Shanley Allen. These tutorials will provide valuable opportunities for theoretical discussion and practical training in topics spanning both spoken and signed languages.

Beyond the scientific programme, IASCL 2027 will be an opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, establish new collaborations, welcome early-career researchers, and strengthen the international community that has made IASCL such a vibrant forum for decades. We hope that every participant will leave Brazil not only with new ideas and research perspectives, but also with lasting professional and personal connections and leave with a sense of having experienced all of this in an enjoyable atmosphere.

We warmly invite you to be part of this special edition of IASCL. Save the date, prepare your abstract, and join us in Brazil for a memorable week of scientific exchange, collaboration, and discovery.
