The Psychology Department and The School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences

The School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences (BBS) is a dynamic, interdisciplinary school at The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas). At a Carnegie R1 research university that is one of the fastest growing institutions in the US, BBS is in a period of rapid growth, investing in hiring new faculty, enhancing the support of doctoral students, and making strategic infrastructure investments to support its three departments (Psychology, Neuroscience, and Speech, Language, and Hearing).

The Department of Psychology at UT Dallas includes over 40 full-time faculty members committed to excellence in research and teaching. Psychology faculty are leaders in their fields who use innovative experimental, observational, and brain imaging methods to answer theoretical and applied questions about human development, aging, human neuroscience and cognition, and social behavior. Many psychology faculty members have grants to support their work, actively publish their research in leading journals, and are leaders in their fields. Department faculty have opportunities to participate in one or more research centers, including The Center for BrainHealth, The Center for Children and Families, and The Center for Vital Longevity.

Child developmental psychologists in the department are affiliated with the Center for Children and Families, a research center with a large community outreach component, working with hundreds of young children throughout the DFW area each year. Many of CCF’s programs target populations traditionally underrepresented in science. This community outreach is a resource to researchers in both recruitment, community partnerships, and community engagement to better understand the needs and goals of all families to guide their research with children.
