Department of Psychology, University of Georgia

The Department of Psychology at the University of Georgia (http://psychology.uga.edu) invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in the area of Health Disparities to begin Fall 2025.

The successful candidate will have a research program in the area of Health Disparities that examines topics such as the impact of psychosocial context, trauma, chronic stress, preventive intervention, intergenerational effects, life course effects, and protective processes on health-related disparities in marginalized communities. Research may involve any domain of potential health disparity, including for example: mortality/life expectancy; aging; cognitive aging, inflammatory processes; elevated burden of infectious and/or chronic disease; mental health; substance use; and suicide, among others.

The creation of an independent public medical school at the University of Georgia has positioned UGA as one of only 13 higher education institutions with full-scale One Health (plant, animal, and human) research operations on their campuses, with academic units in agriculture, veterinary medicine, and medicine all thriving in Athens. This will support a thriving environment for Health Disparities research.

Candidates will be expected to contribute to the teaching needs of the Psychology Department at the graduate and undergraduate level. Candidates may affiliate with one or more of our department’s core training areas: Behavioral and Brain Sciences, Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology, and Clinical Psychology. Successful applicants will join a nationally prominent and productive research faculty and department that is dedicated to supporting faculty research. Collaboration within the department and across the University is encouraged.

Candidates should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statements of research and teaching interests, representative publications and provide the names/contact information of three potential references. All applications received by December 6, 2024 will receive full consideration. For questions about the position, contact Dr. Steven Beach (srhbeach@uga.edu), Search Committee Chair.
