Position:
The College of Liberal Arts invites applications for a tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professor positions in Autism Studies. Preferred start date is August 2025. This is a joint appointment across Family Science and Psychology departments in the College of Liberal Arts, in support of the Autism Studies Ph.D. program at Towson University. We seek candidates who will support the university’s ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through their research, teaching, mentoring and/or lived experience.
Qualifications:
Candidates must hold a doctorate in Family Science, Psychology, or related field. Must have a PhD at the time of appointment.
Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will primarily teach graduate courses related to autism, human development, and human services including classes in the applicant’s area of expertise. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with diverse populations and to create an inclusive learning environment that is attuned to the educational needs of all students. Evidence of effective teaching experience in a college or university setting with students from diverse backgrounds is highly desirable. The successful applicant is expected to demonstrate research competency as well as evidence that they will continue to grow their research agenda related to autism studies, leading to publication in peer-reviewed journals and the potential to secure external funding.
The ability to teach and mentor students interested in autism and neurodiversity is required. The successful applicant will contribute to student advising and service to department, program, and university committees. Applicants will need to demonstrate the potential for strong research, excellent teaching, and service aligned with the college’s expected outcomes of impact, innovation, and engagement towards R2 status and the university’s new strategic plan (https://www.towson.edu/about/mission/strategicplan.html).

The Family Science Department (https://www.towson.edu/cla/departments/family-science) has an undergraduate major in Family and Human Services with and optional track in Child Life as well as graduate programs in Child Life, Jewish Studies, Education and Communal Leadership, Holocaust Education and Family Professional Collaboration. The Psychology Department   (https://www.towson.edu/psychology) has over 1,400 undergraduate psychology majors and 300 graduate students in five master’s degree programs, including clinical psychology, counseling psychology, experimental psychology, human resource development, and school psychology. Salary and Benefits:
Salary range is $70.000 – $73,500 commensurate with experience.
