Job Title: Post-doctoral Research Fellow

Term: As soon as possible for a one-year term from the date the position is filled with possibility of extension

Status: Part-time, or Full-time options available

Location: Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada

Position Overview: The Adolescent Health Lab in the Department of Psychology at Simon Fraser University seeks one data analyst to work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Marlene Moretti and research team on large-scale, intensive implementation and evaluation studies of an attachment-based program for caregivers of pre-teens and teens challenged by serious mental health, social-emotional, and behavioral problems. These projects are funded through the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Public Health Agency of Canada.

The Adolescent Health Lab is a research group in the Department of Psychology and Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at SFU. Our research team focuses on understanding risk and protective factors related to adolescent mental health; the development, implementation and evaluation of innovative evidence-based programs; and translation of research into practice. The Postdoctoral Research Fellows will collaborate with our research team to be members of an international team of investigators and will work with large data sets, using advanced statistical analysis and qualitative methods, to produce first or co-authored professional and community presentations and journal-ready manuscripts. Must enjoy working with a fast-moving collaborative team of researchers and community partners; exceptional analytic and writing skills required. Familiarity with university ethics is an asset but not required. We seek candidates who are strongly committed to research and eager to advance their research or academic careers through participation on published works and senior authorship where appropriate.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Advanced skills and experience in conducting literature reviews including familiarity with systematic reviews and meta-analysis.
  • Conceptualizing and leading complex, advanced statistical analyses using SPSS, Mplus, and other software on lead and collaborative projects, and assisting graduate and undergraduate students in developing analytic skills and undertaking statistical analyses.
  • Preparing manuscripts and engaging in knowledge translation activities for ongoing research projects.
  • Overseeing database construction, development of study procedures, data cleaning and scoring protocols for new and ongoing studies in the lab.
  • Overseeing and directing ethics applications, amendments and annual renewals as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD completed or in advanced progress in Developmental, Clinical, and/or related fields focusing on social-emotional health and developmental psychopathology, with an interest or demonstrated research in adolescent mental health.
  • Well-versed in developmental psychopathology, intervention science and advanced data analytic methodology, especially advanced statistical modelling and related programs (R, MPlus, SPSS, etc). Competence in meta-analysis and/or interest in/use of AI for qualitative data analyses are strong assets.
  • Strong analytic skills, including experience with structural equation modeling (SEM) and longitudinal data analyses (e.g., growth curve models, cross-lagged panel models).
  • Ability to stay up to date with methodological and statistical innovations in psychology.
  • Interest in or experience with qualitative analytic techniques is an asset.
  • Exceptional writing skills, meticulous attention to detail, and proactive problem-solving skills are required.
  • Competence and experience with Qualtrics or other online survey software.
  • Ability to work independently and with team members, including students, staff and faculty with a strong commitment to leading research projects that engage our research network of graduate, undergraduate and international researchers.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of community members, staff, and faculty of varying degrees of technical sophistication.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and proactive problem-solving/management skills are required. This includes the ability to verbally communicate complex issues with clarity to different types of audiences (e.g., academic, community).
  • Experience with Open Science Practices (e.g., preregistration, open data sharing) is preferred.
  • Strong commitment to building your research productivity record to advance your career as a competitive research scholar.
