Billingual Learning Lab, Boston University

 

The Bilingual Learning Lab at Boston University is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to investigate how individual differences in bilingual experience, language ability, and cognition shape language learning in children with and without language disorders, including toddlers who are late to talk.
This position offers exciting opportunities for mentorship within BU’s collaborative and dynamic Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences community. The fellow will gain hands-on experience with advanced methodologies in developmental language research while contributing to community-engaged science. Salary will be aligned with BU Postdoc guidelines.
 
Key Responsibilities
Scientific Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement research studies, including statistical analyses
  • Collaborate with community partners to oversee data collection and management
  • Manage and analyze data from parent interviews, child assessments, and parent-child interactions
  • Supervise transcription and coding of parent-child interactions, ensuring reliability and fidelity of coding procedures
  • Lead and assist grant writing and progress reports
  • Disseminate findings through publications, conference presentations, and community outreach
  • Contribute to ongoing research projects as needed
Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Maintain grant, financial, and regulatory records, including budgets and IRB protocols
  • Oversee general project management tasks to support research activities
Qualifications
  • PhD (or near completion) in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Developmental Psychology, or a related field.
  • Native or advanced proficiency in Spanish (required), as the role involves direct engagement with Spanish-speaking families.
  • Expertise in at least one of the following:
    • Eye-tracking methods
    • Behavioral research with children
    • Network modeling
    • R programming for data processing and analysis.
    • Advanced statistical modeling, including:
      • Linear Mixed Effects Models (LMEM/GLMER)
      • Structural Equation Modeling (SEM)
      • Growth Curve Modeling for longitudinal and multilevel data analysis
The start date is flexible, but we are seeking someone to begin in-person by September 2025.
