The Destin Lab, Northwestern University

FGLI Initiatives Postdoctoral Fellowship Position at Northwestern University

The full-time postdoctoral fellow will participate in the development and facilitation of a program of research investigating the experiences of first-generation and lower-income (FGLI) college students at Northwestern University with the mentorship and supervision of Dr. Mesmin Destin. The project aims to provide a deeper understanding of how engagement with existing programs and resources shapes various aspects of student achievement, thriving and well-being during their time at the university and beyond. Funded by the Office of the Provost, this work includes collaborating with a range of involved students, staff, and faculty and using diverse methodologies (e.g., experimental quantitative methods, ethnographic and interactional methods, semi-structured interviewing) to help identify the specific structures and contexts that support this community of students, and ultimately inform future efforts to best support well-being, identity development, and academic outcomes.

The postdoctoral fellow will support coordination of all aspects of project work — including participating in study design and data collection, facilitating relationships with partnering programs and offices, analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, and developing research reports and articles for distribution and publication. Additionally, the postdoc will have opportunities to help design and engage in other related projects in collaboration with the Destin Lab in addition to Dr. Shirin Vossoughi.

We are seeking candidates who can begin the position as soon as September 1, 2024 and will review applications as they are received. The position will offer a salary of at least $65,000 for one year with possible renewal and teaching opportunities for an additional year. Funds will also be available for relocation, conference travel, and research expenses. Applicants with a PhD in psychology, education, or related fields are encouraged to apply.

How to Apply

Please submit a cover letter detailing your research background, qualifications, and interests, in addition to a CV, three letters of recommendation, and a writing sample. Materials are submitted here.
