Carleton University

Carleton University is working with community partners to develop a micro-credential in Climate Change and Youth Mental Health. To engage young people in this process, we are seeking submissions from anyone under the age of 25 who would like to address one or more of the prompts below through any form of arts (drawings, paintings, digital art, photography, poetry, music and video).

Each entry will be reviewed by a panel of young people and experts in climate change who will assign three prizes:

1st prize $500

2nd prize $300

3rd prize $150

Deadline for submission is February 1 2025 at midnight EST. Email your submissions to mochi4theplanet@gmail.com

Prompt #1: This is how climate change affects me. Climate change affects the world in many ways—our environment, health, communities, and even how we feel about the future. How do you see or experience these changes? Create a piece that reflects the transformations happening around you.

Prompt #1: My awakening. We all have a moment when we first realize the reality of climate change. Whether it came from a conversation, a news story, or something you saw in nature, how did this awareness affect you? Use your art to express that first encounter with climate change.

Prompt #3: My emotional experiences with climate change. The emotions tied to climate change can be complex. Share your emotional journey in a way that others can connect to.

Prompt #4: Finding meaning during climate change. Living through an ecological crisis requires us to stay connected to nature, be hopeful, and rely on one another. What keeps you going in the face of uncertainty? Show us the things that inspire you to continue caring and acting for the planet.

Prompt #5: Talking about climate change. This reflection is about the adults in your life (e.g., parents, teachers, nurses, counsellors, coaches). How do the adults in your life support you as you learn to live with the climate crisis? Through your art, communicate the story you believe needs to be told, and how adults should best support you as you navigate the climate crisis.

Note: By submitting your art, you grant permission for it to be used for the purposes of the micro-credential, regardless of winning a prize.
