Infancy
Infancy is accepting submissions for a special issue, Babies and Screens: The Complexities of Infant Media Engagement and Developmental Outcomes. Guest editors Roberta Golinkoff, Kathy Hirsh-Pasek, and Amanda Delgado invite submissions that include, but are not limited to, the following topics:
-
Methods for measuring infants’ media use that extend beyond traditional screen time metrics, focusing on content quality and contextual factors influencing media exposure.
-
Caregivers’ beliefs and practices regarding joint media engagement, including decisions on when and how to engage with infants across various activities (video chat vs. apps).
-
Longitudinal studies on the effects of media on, among areas, children’s attention, language development, motor development, and social functioning.
-
Studies designed to understand how caregivers navigate infant media choices over time. What are the factors that influence caregivers’ media usage for infants and toddlers?
-
Infants’ media engagement with people other than a parent, including grandparents and siblings, and the implications of these interactions on developmental outcomes.
-
Associations between media use with infants’ behavioral responses, including attention, emotional regulation, and physiological arousal patterns.
