Society for Research in Child Development

Applications are now open for the 2025-2026 cohort of the SRCD U.S. Policy Fellowship! Apply before January 6, 2025, 11:59 p.m. ET. The fellowship runs from September 1 to August 31, each year.

Embark on a transformative journey that can change your career. SRCD policy fellows are immersed in a U.S. federal agency, Congress, or a state agency for one to two years, where they work full-time to improve evidence-based policymaking that impacts children and families.
With almost 250 alumni over our 30+ years of success, SRCD has placed fellows in 20 states in all regions of the country, as well as Washington, D.C.  SRCD U.S. Policy Fellowship alumni are some of the most influential researchers in developmental science, senior staff at federal and state agencies, and philanthropic leaders.
SRCD embeds diversity, equity, and inclusion into all we do. We strongly encourage fellowship applications from scholars of color, scholars from underrepresented cultural and ethnic backgrounds, scholars from low-income backgrounds, first-generation college graduates, scholars with disabilities, and scholars from the LGBTQIA+ community. We are proud that over half of our fellow cohorts in the last few years have been scholars from underrepresented communities.

The SRCD U.S. Fellowship is special, offering fellows a chance to experience life as a policymaker. Fellows learn how to communicate more effectively with policymaker and formular policy-relevant research questions.

As a fellow, you are supported with:

  • Regular mentorship
  • A highly competitive stipend (a fellow who has no work experience, living in D.C. post-Ph.D., receives around $99,000 in 2024)
  • Professional development opportunities
  • $2,800 annually to support your professional development
  • A healthcare stipend
  • The ability to form a bond with a cohort of peers and alum that lasts throughout your career
  • Opportunities to grow in ways that many of our alumni tell us they have never had before
