Development: A Canadian Developmental Psychology Conference 2022 aimed to bring together leading experts, researchers, and students to network and communicate their research findings in Developmental Psychology. It provided an opportunity for researchers and professionals to learn about recent findings in Developmental Psychology, gain new ideas, and enhance their personal and professional development.

Development 2022 was co-sponsored by the Pickering Centre for Research in Human Development and Canadian Psychological Association (CPA). The conference took place on June 15th and 16th 2022 at the Hyatt Regency Calgary (Alberta).

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Dr. Susan Graham: “When you’re happy and I know it: Preschoolers’ attention to emotion in speech”

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Susan Graham was our first Keynote Speaker at Development 2022! Dr. Graham is the Director of the Owerko Centre at the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute and Professor of Psychology at the University of Calgary. Dr. Graham’s research investigates child development during infancy and preschool, with a focus on children’s early language development.

Dr. Marlene Moretti: “Adolescence from an attachment perspective: Implications for youth mental health and interventions”

At Development 2022, Dr. Marlene Moretti received the 2022 Pickering Award for Outstanding Contribution to Developmental Psychology in Canada and presented her research at the Pickering Public Lecture. Dr. Moretti is a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair and Professor of Psychology at Simon Fraser University, previous Senior Research Chair with Canadian Institutes of Health Research (2009-2014), and an Honorary Professor at the University of Orebro in Sweden. Dr. Moretti’s current research interests include the etiology and developmental course of pre-teen and teen mental health and behavioural problems, the importance of attachment relationships in buffering youth from adversity, and the development, dissemination and evaluation of interventions to promote health and reduce risk among youth.

MENTORING LUNCH

On each of the 2 days of the conference, student attendees were eligible to participate in our complimentary Mentoring Lunch. The Development 2022 Mentoring Lunch was an opportunity for students to chat with senior scholars in the area of Developmental Psychology.

CPA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2022

Development 2022 was followed by CPA’s Annual General Meeting on June 17th to 19th 2022 at the Hyatt Regency in Calgary, Alberta.
