TIPS ON MAKING POSTERS
- All lettering should be legible from a distance.
- Charts, drawings, and illustrations should be kept as simple as possible; coloring can be useful to add emphasis and clarity. Captions should be brief and labels few but clear.
- It helps the viewer if you can indicate a preferred sequence to follow in studying your material.
- Ideally, your poster should be self-explanatory so that you are free to supplement and discuss points.
Lightning Talks
A lightning talk is a 5-minute individual presentation for sharing information in a spoken format in a succinct manner. Sessions will allow sufficient time for presenters to take one or two questions between talks. Slides are permitted.
Lightning talks will be grouped into sessions. Each session will be assigned a moderator, to whom presenters will be responsible for sending their slides beforehand. Presenters will receive the details of their session (e.g., date, time, location, name and contact information of their moderator) after the conference schedule has been finalized.
All rooms come equipped with a laptop computer. Lightning talk moderators should bring presenter slides on a USB flash drive.
Symposia
Each symposium is expected to include a moderator/Chair who is responsible for the engagement and a productive experience for panel members and the audience. The moderator/Chair should arrange at least one meeting, in person, by phone or electronically, among the panel members prior to the symposium. On the day of the symposium, the moderator/Chair is responsible for managing the allotted time and makes sure that the symposium begins on time and each panelist has an equitable share of the available time. The moderator/Chair also ensures that at least 15 minutes of the symposium time is set aside for conversation with the members of the audience and that the symposium ends at the allotted time.
