Neurodevelopmental Disorders Lab, University of South Carolina
Dr. Jane Roberts and the Neurodevelopmental Disorders Lab at the Carolina Autism and Neurodevelopment Research Center at the University of South Carolina are currently seeking a postdoctoral scholar. This is a full-time, two-year grant-funded position, with the option of extension. This scholar will have the opportunity to contribute to a variety of ongoing NIH-funded research studies focused on development in young children with neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., fragile X syndrome, fragile X premutation, autism spectrum disorder).
The NDD Lab examines multiple aspects of children’s development, including attention, language, social behavior, physiological responsivity, anxiety, and behavioral regulation. The scholar will receive hands-on experience conducting research studies with individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders and their families. Autism spectrum disorder diagnostic training will be offered (e.g., ADOS research reliability). The fellow will also have the opportunity to participate in specialized training in the use and interpretation of physiological data (i.e., heart activity, EEG). There will be significant emphasis on manuscript preparation, as well as professional development, such as project initiation, mentoring students, grant writing, and transitioning to independence. The fellow will be encouraged to submit their own application for external funding to a major federal agency or private foundation (e.g., NIH, Autism Speaks).
Dr. Roberts’ research is multifaceted, and this opportunity is appropriate for applicants with backgrounds in various aspects of development in children with neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., communication science; developmental cognitive neuroscience; clinical, school, and developmental psychology). While this fellowship has a primary focus on research, there is a great deal of clinical training, so applicants interested in a primary focus on either research or clinical skills are encouraged to apply. The ideal start date is summer 2026.
