Cognition and Language Lab, Northwestern University
The Cognition and Language Lab at Northwestern University, led by Dedre Gentner, is seeking a post-doctoral fellow to collaborate on NSF-funded research on analogical learning and reasoning. This is a collaborative grant with Florencia Anggoro (College of the Holy Cross), Benjamin Jee (Worcester State University), and Bryan Matlen (WestEd). A central focus will be on discovering whether and how analogical skills can be improved.
The post-doctoral fellow will actively participate in all stages of the research, including designing and conducting studies, analyzing data, writing up research for publication, and presenting research results at national and international conferences. The post-doctoral fellow will also be involved in the supervision of undergraduate research students and collaboration with graduate students.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD. in cognitive psychology or cognitive science, with strong training in research design and statistical analysis and proficient writing skills. Most importantly, the applicant should have a strong interest in exploring analogical thinking processes and how they can be improved. Other desirable qualities are knowledge of conceptual/semantic representation and cognitive development and interest in/familiarity with the natural sciences. Knowledge of and/or experience with individual differences and assessment would be an asset.
This is a one-year position contingent on availability of funding. The start date is October 1, 2025, but is negotiable. To apply, please email a cover letter and CV (including names of two or three referees who have agreed to be contacted) to Dr. Dedre Gentner (gentner@northwestern.edu).
